Wretch and Rascal love Cape Town for its impossibly cool vibe and heady mix of culinary delights, world-class art, Dutch and British colonial architecture and the constant knowledge that Great White Sharks are circling in the Ocean below, waiting for their next meal...
When you drive from the airport you cannot help but be blown away by the sheer magnitude and beauty of Table Mountain. No photos ever prepare you for how it dominants and watches over this stunning city. If you wish to climb the sheer 3558 ft. cliff face, be our guest but the stunning cable car ride to the top was enough excitement!
Wretch and Rascal's Top 5
1. Long Street
As it's name suggests, this street is not only very long, it as also the heart of city with a perfect mix of old-world charm, modern restaurants and Jack Black beer flowing from every tap. Also great shopping both for the unusual gift and the latest trend.
44 Long Sreet
This cool and atmospheric pub has a perfect mix of modern and retro decor and artworks. You will love the fillet steak, service and and locally brewed 'Half Wolf Larger'.
Shop 2, 14 Long Street
We never knew miso soup could be so good. This, followed by incredible sashimi, sushi and ramen, made Obi by far the best Japanese food we have had anywhere in the world... so far!
The Backpack Cape Town
74 New Church Street
Although just off Long Street, we cannot recommend this perfectly located hostel highly enough... it has great wifi in the rooms, the most comfortable beds and is also uber-eco-friendly. The helpful staff also recommended the next highlight.
2. Wine Tasting in Stellenbosch
If you want to start drinking delicious wine at 9am and not stop until 4pm, then we cannot recommend Wine Files highly enough. Terrence, our friendly and knowledgeable guide drove us between five very different wineries for such delights as chocolate or cheese pairing, drinking literally from the barrel and the best: Sampling several glasses of the South African version of champagne!
3. National Art Gallery
Wherever in the world Wretch and Rascal find themselves, they just love to see art, especially portraiture, because ultimately our mission is to make you look fabulous in photos. This modern art gallery will always have exhibitions of local and international contemporary portraits and other more eclectic pieces, such as the 'The Magic of Asian Puppets' (pictured).
4. The Labia Cinema
When you are travelling but still want to keep up with the latest movies, this fantastic find means there is no need to be frivolous as it shows local, art-house and blockbuster movies in a beautiful colonial building for £1!! There is also a great cafe and you can take wine or beer into the screenings too.
5. Cape Electric Tattoos
We love tattoos and where better to get one than in this uber-cool retro parlour. From the neon sign in the window to the rocking playlist, you feel welcome and in good hands.. Whether you want Sailor Jerry classics, Iconic Japanese designs, black and white or your own style, these professional and experienced artists will not disappoint!
